Auto Insurance
Designed to help protect you and your car in the event of an accident.
Auto insurance offers coverage for the costs of repairing or replacing your vehicle after an accident, as well as providing for injured parties in an accident where you’re at fault. Make sure you are not alone when something unexpected happens. We’re here to help.
What is auto insurance?
A personal auto policy provides coverage for liability, medical payments, uninsured or underinsured motorist liability, comprehensive (“other than collision”), collision, rental reimbursement, and towing. The 8 types of auto coverage include:
- Bodily Injury Liability: Pays for the other parties' injuries/medical expenses if you were at fault.
- Property Damage Liability: Pays for the other parties' property you damage if you are at fault.
- Collision: Pays for your car to be repaired or replaced after an accident.
- Comprehensive: Coverage for loss or damage that isn’t because of an accident. For example, fire, flood, theft, animals.
- Medical payments: Coverage for the medical bills for you and any passengers.
- Personal Injury Protection: Similar to medical payments coverage, but also includes lost wages and other non-medical costs.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist: If you’re hit by an uninsured driver, or the driver at fault doesn’t have enough coverage to pay your medical and repair bills. Also covers hit-and-run accidents.
- Towing and labor coverage: Covers a tow if your car can’t be driven. Also pays labor costs for changing a flat tire, charging a battery, etc.
- Rental Reimbursement: Pays for a rental while your car is being repaired or if it’s stolen.
How much car insurance do I need?
Under Texas law, drivers must have at least $30,000 in Bodily Injury Liability coverage per person (up to $60,000 per accident) and $25,000 in Property Damage Liability coverage. All Texas auto policies also include Personal Injury Protection and Uninsured/Underinsured motorist, though you can decline this coverage in writing. Beyond these minimums, you can choose additional coverage. If you have a loan on your vehicle, you’ll need to have collision and comprehensive coverage.
If you drive into Mexico, you’ll need a Mexican liability insurance policy. Mexico doesn’t recognize American car or truck insurance.
